In 2021 Freebridge joined together with four other leading social housing providers in Norfolk and Suffolk - Broadland Housing Association, Havebury Housing Partnership, Orwell Housing and Saffron Housing Trust - to form a new, informal alliance called Independent East. This group was formed to help support each other in delivering better services to our tenants and local communities.

One of Independent East's first projects has been to start working with a small group of tenants from each organisation to look at the possibilities for creating a new Resident's Voice for Norfolk and Suffolk.

Regional voice meeting update February 2024:

An update on the formation of a new regional voice

Recently a survey was held on behalf of Independent East which Freebridge advertised on its social media platforms to see if there was an appetite for a regional voice. Over 900 people across the region completed the survey. The majority of people who answered the survey were positive about a new Regional Voice stating that it can only be good for Housing Associations to stay independent but to work together.

People felt that by the five housing associations working together we can share knowledge, resources and best practice. Tenants in the regional voice will have more influence on things that matter to tenants across the region and that service.

The top five areas people wish the Regional Voice to discuss are:

  1. Helping with rising living costs
  2. Making homes more energy efficient
  3. Tackling anti-social behaviour
  4. Improving housing service standards and performance
  5. Building safe, happy and supportive communities

It was made clear by 93% of those who completed the survey that the Regional group are to focus on practical action and change not just discussion.

We will keep you updated on the progress of this group. For now out of the Top Five Areas that people wanted the group to discuss, which is most important to you? Take the Poll and let us know.

    Living in a happy community

by snowdrop, over 1 year ago

It's interesting that ASB and Living in a nice happy community are in the top 5, but perhaps the most difficult issue for any housing association to improve as it's very complex and involves other organisations. Having a nice home with good reliable maintenance and services mean little if the area outside feels neglected and threatening.
