Safe to Play: Helping Children Enjoy Activities Safely This Summer

Whether it's football, dance, swimming, gymnastics, scouts, drama clubs or holiday activities, children and young people take part in a wide range of activities throughout the year. As parents and carers, we all want to know that the places our children attend are safe, welcoming and supportive.

That's why we're supporting the Safe to Play campaign, taking place from 6 to 12 July, led by Active Norfolk.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of safeguarding in sport and physical activity, helping parents, carers and organisations understand the simple steps that can be taken to help keep children safe while they learn, play and develop new skills.

What is Safe to Play?

Safe to Play encourages positive conversations about child welfare and safeguarding. It highlights the importance of choosing activities where children feel respected, included and supported, and where their wellbeing is a priority.

A key part of the campaign is the NSPCC's five safeguarding questions, which can help parents and carers feel more confident when selecting clubs, groups and activities for their children.

Free Webinar for Parents and Carers

As part of the campaign, Active Norfolk is hosting a free webinar on 8 July in partnership with the NWG.

The session will cover:

  • What the Safe to Play campaign is all about
  • The NSPCC's five safeguarding questions
  • Practical steps parents, carers and organisations can take to help keep children safer in sport and physical activity

Why it Matters

Safe, positive experiences help children build confidence, develop new skills, make friends and stay active. By asking the right questions and having open conversations about safeguarding, we can all help create environments where children can thrive.
